After a vigorous development and testing programme on the road and race track, we’re proud to announce the launch of our AIRTEC Motorsport Shifter Assembly range.
These shifters have been carefully engineered to improve the gear change experience, offering a huge 40% reduction in distance throw to vastly decrease shifting time. But the shifter doesn’t just decrease the throw; it massively improves the feel and is guaranteed to enhance your driving experience.
What it does
The shifter completely eliminates any slack movement from the gear lever and as a result, every shift is perfect, positive and precise. The raised gear lever also allows changes to feel more natural. The positive effect from this more confident gear change action is removing any worry about selecting the correct gear, which allows you to focus on other aspects of driving – a huge benefit when on track or road.
How it works
Where an OEM gear lever naturally centres but with little resistance, the AIRTEC Motorsport shifter features a heavy-duty, spring-loaded mechanism to self-centre it. Travel of the lever can also be finely adjusted to limit shift movements to a minimum, which all ensures there is no slack movement. Reverse gear can only be selected by lifting up the collar, ensuring it cannot be selected accidentally and there is also the option to lock out certain gears for competition use.
Fitment
Installation does not require any modification or change to the car’s clutch or gearbox, and it is a direct fit part that is fully reversible, so there are no additional mounts or brackets to be cut, welded or fitted. The centre console can still be retained, and the shifter uses the existing gear cables and linkages. The comprehensive kit comes complete with a range of Allen Keys to fit/adjust the shifter and to give an OEM+ appearance, it also comes with a shifter surround panel to cover the lower mechanism.
Construction
The shifter is constructed in two parts; the base and tower of which are made from laser-cut 3mm 304-grade stainless-steel, finished in powder coated black, to ensure the shifter remains completely rigid and will not flex during hard use. The top mechanism section, gear lever and gear knob are CNC-machined from high-tensile aerospace 7075-grade aluminium, finished in anodised black, whilst the shifters are assembled by hand at AIRTEC Motorsport HQ.
